What pushes a Waterloo plumbing price up

After hours. A burst pipe at 11pm on a Saturday is priced as an emergency. If it can safely wait until morning for less money, you will be told so on the phone.
Gas, venting and electrical. Water heater and tankless jobs move most on the things that are not plumbing: gas line sizing, new venting through a wall or roof, and a circuit for the controls. They are checked before the quote so they are not a surprise after it.
Permits. Where a job needs a plumbing permit through the City of Waterloo or Woolwich Township, the permit fee is passed through at cost and shown on the quote. We do not quote permit fees on this site because they are set by the municipality and change.
Well systems. Treatment for a rural well depends on the water test. Iron, hardness and sulphur each need their own stage, and the price follows the test rather than a package.

What brings it down

How to compare plumbing quotes
- Is the plumber licensed? Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario. Ask to see the Certificate of Qualification.
- Is the price for the job, in writing, before the work? An hourly rate with no estimate of hours is not a price.
- Is the equipment specified? Water heater make and capacity, softener size, valve type.
- Is the gas work being done by a TSSA-certified technician?
- Are permits included where they apply, and whose name is on them?
- Who repairs the wall or floor that was opened, and is it in the price?
